The Cleveland Cavaliers seem to be done trying to get one of the biggest names in the league.
With the NBA offseason nearing an end and many major trades and deals already done, one of the few remaining question marks relates to the future of Donovan Mitchell, currently of the Utah Jazz.
There have been a few teams attempting to land the superstar, most notably the New York Knicks.
Recently, the Cavaliers have joined the fray and have apparently been trying to trade for Mitchell.
But that might all be over now.
Cleveland Cavaliers have removed themselves from Donovan Mitchell trade talks, per SNY sources. Doesn’t seem like there are any suitors at moment who can approach what Knicks can offer Utah – even if you take RJ Barrett off the table. So this trade is still NYK’s to lose.

NBA insider Ian Begley is reporting that the Cavs have “removed themselves from Donovan Mitchell talks.”
This means that the Knicks, and really only the Knicks, are known to be in contention for Mitchell and, as Begley puts it, it is their trade to lose.
But don’t consider Mitchell’s move to New York a done deal just yet.
Mitchell On The Move
It is important to remember that even if the Cavs are out of the running for Mitchell, there is still much we don’t know.
We simply aren’t privy to all the behind-the-scenes negotiating and drama going on.
For example, some reporting has said that two teams aside from the Knicks have created offers for Mitchell that Danny Ainge of the Jazz likes.
Even if one of those teams was the Cavs, we don’t know the identity of the other.
Therefore, things can still happen – new trades can be offered or the Jazz could simply decide they don’t want to send Mitchell away.
But if Cleveland really has given up on getting Mitchell, the chances of him going to New York just increased.
