As the 2023 season approaches, the St. Louis Cardinals are a team with several roster spots up for grabs.
But on Sunday, they may have gained a little more clarity with some of their position battles.
As it pertains to the bench, the only three players that seem to have their spots secured are Nolan Gorman, Juan Yepez, and backup catcher Andrew Knizner.
Yet top prospect Jordan Walker made a great first impression and a strong case to gain a spot on the Opening Day roster.
In the top of the first inning of their game against the Miami Marlins, Walker took veteran right-hander Johnny Cueto deep, hitting a three-run homer to give St. Louis a 5-0 lead.
On Twitter, Bally Sports Midwest posted a video of the moment.

So far, things are looking pretty good for Walker.
The Cardinals believe that there is little more he can do at the minor-league level and that soon, he’ll be ready for big-league action.
Perhaps this is the reason St. Louis chose not to add any more pieces to their offense after the Willson Contreras signing.
Walker’s power is unquestionable, and he could potentially find himself in the mix for the designated hitter role this season.
Having him, Gorman, and Yepez in the mix is going to force some tough decisions for the Cardinals.
Things could be even better if Paul DeJong returns to form.
The Cardinals lineup has plenty of depth, and Walker could potentially make them even deeper if he earns a spot on the Opening Day roster.
