The St. Louis Cardinals are going to have some work to do this offseason following their early exit in the NL Wild Card Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The team won 93 games and clinched the National League Central in late September, but significant upgrades may be required if they want to compete with the best teams in baseball.
One such spot where they could upgrade is at the shortstop position.
They already have a solid duo in Tommy Edman and Brendan Donovan manning the middle infield position, but Greg Amsinger of MLB Network made a bold prediction a few days ago.
Amsinger states that he believes Trea Turner will be the Cardinals shortstop on Opening Day in 2023.

Could Trea Turner Sign In St. Louis?
This is a bold prediction, but Turner might be a good fit for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals don’t usually offer star players massive contracts, but Turner would be a good fit.
If this came to pass, the Cardinals could then fill a hole in their outfield my moving Edman or Donovan out there and keeping one of them at second base while Turner patrols shortstop.
This would give the Cardinals one of the best lineups in all of baseball.
Again, the Cardinals aren’t typically a team that offers large contracts to star players.
An outfielder is probably more likely, but given John Mozeliak’s comments about wanting to increase the team’s payroll, Cardinals fans are left wondering how much he intends to increase the payroll and if that will include signing somebody like Turner or potentially even Carlos Correa.
