The St. Louis Cardinals are currently looking for ways to boost their offensive production after a disappointing series against the Cincinnati Reds in terms of runs scored.
Yesterday, the team announced a roster move.
Juan Yepez, who has been away from the team since he was injured on July 14, has been recalled to the big-league club.
In response, rookie second baseman Nolan Gorman has been sent down to Triple-A Memphis.
Gorman is hitting .226 this season with 14 home runs and 35 RBI.
He had gotten off to a hot start, but he’s slowed down some in recent weeks, prompting the Cardinals to make a change.

Cards Option Gorman
Yepez provides the Cardinals with another outfield option with Tyler O’Neill on the injured list for the third time this season.
In 210 at-bats, Yepez is hitting .252 with 11 home runs and 27 RBI.
For now, it looks like the Cardinals want to give Gorman a little more time to develop at the minor league level.
He forced his way onto the roster in late May with a hot start in Memphis.
But he has been struggling lately, losing much of his at-bats against right-handed pitchers to a resurgent Albert Pujols, who not only is chasing 700 home runs but is also starting to hit right-handers a little bit better than he has in recent years.
Yepez could end up being a DH option if the Cards want to give the surging Pujols a break at any point.
Gorman still is regarded as one of the top prospects within the Cardinals’ system and likely is not far away from returning to the big leagues.
For now, the Cardinals have decided to make a slight change to boost their offense.
