Kyler Murray has solidified his spot as the Arizona Cardinals‘ starting quarterback in the long run after signing a five-year, $230 million contract extension.
The deal includes $189.5 million in guaranteed money and a $29 million signing bonus.
The Cardinals are hoping to reap the rewards from this lofty investment.
More importantly, they must protect Murray from strong hits or sacks from the opposition.
Otherwise, their campaign will be tougher because their quarterback depth chart also got thinner.

NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport tweeted, “The #AZCardinals have placed QB Colt McCoy on injured reserve and promoted Trace McSorley to the active roster from the practice squad. McCoy is out four games.”
McCoy strained his calf, rendering him unable to play.
However, the Cardinals hope that they won’t have to resort to McCoy or McSorley at all.
A Quick Glimpse Of Colt McCoy’s Football Career
The former Texas standout was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
He started some games for the Browns during his rookie and sophomore seasons.
In 2012, McCoy backed up rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden.
He was then traded to the San Francisco 49ers, serving as backup.
It has been his role since he joined the Niners, the then-Washington Redskins, New York Giants, and the Cardinals.
As of 2021, McCoy has 7,195 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions.
He also had two rushing touchdowns out of 546 yards.
Those numbers are a far cry from his Longhorns days, wherein he dominated the awards.
In his final year with Texas, he won the Maxwell Award, Davey O’Brien Award, Manning Award, Chic Harley Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, and Big-12 Offensive Player of the Year.
The Longhorns retired his number 12 jersey.
