The Milwaukee Brewers won their arbitration hearing against star pitcher Corbin Burnes,
The 2021 NL Cy Young award winner will make $10.01 million this season as opposed to the $10.75 million he filed for.
If you haven’t seen the seriousness of the situation, we will tell you: the Brewers damaged their long-term relationship with Burnes over $740,000.
MLB teams make millions, so they could definitely afford paying that extra money to Burnes and putting in the foundation of future extension talks.
After all, the pitcher will be a free agent after the 2024 campaign, two seasons from now.
Now, the pitcher himself said the relationship is definitely hurt.
There are no guarantees that it can ever be repaired.
“The #Brewers have an estimated payroll around $128m in 2023. Not willing to pay Corbin Burnes an additional $740k is a total indictment on the front office. Now they’re sitting here with a damaged relationship with their ace pitcher. Not a good way to kick off Spring Training,” Wisconsin sports reporter Kyle Malzhan tweeted.

Burnes posted 2.11, 2.43, and 2.94 ERA finishes from 2020 to 2022.
He won a Cy Young award in the process and should have won in 2020, too.
To think he lost the hearing is outrageous, but to imagine the Brewers ruining their chances of an extension over $740,000 is preposterous.
He is one of the most dominant pitchers in the sport, and will make a lot of money in the 2024-25 offseason when he hits the market as a 30-year-old pitcher in his prime.
He could still sign an extension, but all parties know that the odds of that happening are now very, very low.
