After a long and arduous stretch of games in which they trailed the New York Mets in the National League East division, the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves have finally caught them and pulled into a tie for first place.
It was a barn burner out in Oakland last night as the Braves erupted for 10 runs and defeated the Oakland Athletics by a final of 10-9.
Meanwhile in Pittsburgh, the New York Mets were blown out in their series opener, falling by a final of 8-2.
The Mets once led the Braves in the NL East by 10.5 games.
That all seems like a distant memory now.
And we are tied! For the first time since opening day Atlanta is in first place, tied with the #Mets.

Braves Catch The Mets
We all knew that the Braves were never a team that you could sleep on.
Even when the Mets had command in the East, it would have been preposterous to think that the Braves wouldn’t come back for a little vengeance and try to continue their run atop the NL East.
Atlanta has won the division four straight years after all.
Now, with the latest Mets’ slide, the Braves have a great chance to capture their fifth straight division title.
It’s been an exciting run for the Braves and their fans.
This team is a serious threat to repeat as World Series champions.
The pitching staff remains elite, and their lineup is among the best in all of baseball.
The Mets and Braves have seemingly gone in opposite directions since New York had such a commanding lead.
But it’s going to be an exciting race to watch here in September.
Two powerhouses will be going at it to decide NL East supremacy.
The Braves certainly have a good chance to take home another division title.
