Even though the Buffalo Bills already have one of the best offenses in the NFL, they continue to find ways to improve on that side of the ball.
With the Bills being one of the early favorites to reach Super Bowl LVII, they are making sure that quarterback Josh Allen has more targets around him.
However, the Bills have already given up on Howard after announcing his release.
Howard fall out of favor in Tampa, and now despite having signed a free-agency contract with Buffalo, he's released.

NFL insider Dov Kleiman tweeted, “#Bills cut former #Bucs 1st round pick TE OJ Howard, per @RapSheet. Howard fall out of favor in Tampa, and now despite having signed a free-agency contract with Buffalo, he’s released.”
Howard could have competed with Dawson Knox for the starting tight end role.
However, the Bills decided to stick with Knox, especially after his solid 2021 season wherein he had 687 yards and nine touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Howard had just three catches for 16 yards and a touchdown during preseason.
He got all of those stats against the Denver Broncos.
Unfortunately, Howard’s career is on a downward trend, especially during his last two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
After having 459 yards and a touchdown in 14 games played in 2019, he had 146 yards and touchdowns in four games the following year.
Worst yet, Howard finished with 135 yards and a touchdown last season despite playing 17 games.
Bills Offense Remains Stacked
Even if they lose Howard, they still have several weapons left on their roster.
Those players should be ready to go once the Bills open the 2022 season against the Los Angeles Rams on September 8.
Aside from Knox, Buffalo will also have Tommy Sweeney and Quintin Morris at tight end.
Meanwhile, Howard’s NFL journey isn’t over because the Cleveland Browns might be interested in signing him.
