It’s no secret that the Cleveland Browns have been trying to trade Baker Mayfield ever since they signed Deshaun Watson to a five-year, $230 million fully-guaranteed contract.
There’s no sense keeping him as a backup because they got an upgrade at the game’s most important position.
However, it remains to be seen whether Watson will play in the 2022 season at all.
Even if he gets suspended indefinitely, the Browns have appointed Jacoby Brissett to take over the team for now.
They cannot pull Mayfield off the trading block and he might not want to play for the Browns anymore.
It would be difficult for him to stay with the Browns at this point given the way the team has treated him.
That perception is a far cry from the time they made him the top overall pick.
But the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner might be out of Cleveland soon, as shared by sports journalist Michael Balko Jr.

Why A Trade With The Seahawks Makes Sense
The Carolina Panthers also showed interest in trading for Mayfield but opted to select Ole Miss’ Matt Corral in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Therefore, they would like to see if the rookie can take over from Sam Darnold.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks’ quarterback depth chart is shallow with Drew Lock, Geno Smith, and Jacob Eason.
Mayfield is an upgrade from any of these play-callers and he will do better on offense.
He presents a better chance of winning than the other quarterbacks on the Seahawks’ roster.
The team can bring Mayfield in and see what he has.
If he meets or exceeds expectations, he deserves a contract extension.
