Free agency is finally upon us and soon, some of the biggest names on the market will be signing some large contracts, either with their old teams or with another ballclub.
One free agent who is not expected to stay with his old team is Willson Contreras.
The Chicago Cubs recently offered their star catcher a qualifying offer, which he ultimately declined.
But there may be a team that is seeking an upgrade at the catcher position.
The World Series champion Houston Astros recently had both Martin Maldonado and Christian Vazquez manning the catcher position.
Both are now free agents.
But according to Jon Heyman, the team appears to be in on the 2016 World Series champion.
Heyman also revealed that the Astros were close to trading for him at the trade deadline.
Astros have interest in Willson Contreras. Nearly traded for him at deadline when James Click was GM. Still like him. Market should be strong for WC.

Astros In On Contreras
Contreras ultimately stayed with the Cubs at the trade deadline, but as a free agent, it appears unlikely that he will return to the North Side of Chicago.
Houston would be an interesting fit.
Had they acquired him at the trade deadline, then teams might have had an even tougher time beating them during the postseason.
But with Maldonado and Vazquez both free agents, now would be the perfect time for the Astros to try and make a play for Contreras.
Both Vazquez and Maldonado could end up leaving via free agency.
The financial flexibility is certainly there for Houston after winning the World Series.
Contreras might be the perfect fit for the Astros as they attempt to defend their title in 2023.
