We’ve all grown accustomed to the New York Yankees being at the top of the heap this year.
Every time new power rankings are released, the Yankees are always at the top.
The Evil Empire is back in full force, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have some challengers.
The Houston Astros proved that on Thursday, as they swept their day-night doubleheader over the Yankees to start off the second half.
Now, things are getting interesting, and the Yankees stranglehold in the rest of the league might be starting to slip a little bit.
Bob Nightengale provided a standings update on Twitter, revealing that the Astros are now just 2.5 games behind the Bronx Bombers for the best record in baseball.

Astros Gunning For Best Record
Things can change in baseball.
Things might just already be changing in terms of who has the best record in the league.
The Astros are proving to be a thorn in the Yankees side this season.
The Yankees still have a commanding lead in the AL East, but the Astros are charging hard for that best record and have a commanding lead of their own in the AL West division.
It looks as if these two teams are going to be the ones battling it out in the American League for the best record, which seems to be a nice little prelude to another matchup between them in the ALCS.
They met there in 2017 and in 2019, with the Astros winning both times.
Houston will open up a series this weekend against the red-hot Seattle Mariners, while the Yankees head out to Baltimore.
Things are getting exciting.
We’ll see which team ultimately ends up with the best record.
