There is a hot debate in professional sports that has been taking place for years: whether the so-called “momentum” exists.
We can’t provide a conclusive answer, but if the 2022 MLB World Series between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies is any indication, it sure seems like a real thing.
Look at this incredible stat by the folks at MLB Network:
“Astros and Phillies have each scored 15 runs…and this has been the run breakdown: – Astros scored first 5 runs; Phillies scored next 6 runs; Astros scored next 5 runs; Phillies scored next 9 runs; Astros scored next 5 runs,” they tweeted.

The end result?
The series is tied 2-2, and could’t look more closely contested.
A Weird Series From A Scoring Standpoint
When one of the teams starts a rally or manages to dominate the other squad’s offense for a stretch, it seems unbeatable.
The very next day, or sometimes even in the same game but later, the other team starts scoring in bunches never to look back.
It has been a crazy World Series so far that included one team coming back from a 5-0 deficit, one of them hitting five home runs in a game and then being no-hit the very next day.
That’s what happens when you have two extremely competitive squads with a faithful crowd and lots of pitching and offensive stars, not to mention two competent managers looking for their first World Series trophy.
Game 5 will serve to break the tie tonight, as the two organizations will travel on Friday and return to play on Saturday in Houston.
Who will come out on top?
We don’t know, but it has been a thrilling Fall Classic by all accounts.
