The offseason has begun, and the Los Angeles Angels have plenty of holes to fill and problems to address if they are serious about contending in what could be Shohei Ohtani‘s final year in Anaheim.
One of the major areas to address is their offense.
Outside of Ohtani and Mike Trout, there isn’t much of a supporting cast in the Angels’ lineup.
Anthony Rendon, who was signed to add a little extra thump to the lineup, has dealt with several key injuries over the past few seasons.
But it goes beyond just injuries.
During the season, their 1-3 hitters averaged an .831 OPS, which was third best in all of baseball.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for their 4-9 hitters, who averaged a .607 OPS during the season, which was the worst in all of baseball.

How The Angels Can Fix Their Offense
Clearly, the Angels have some work to do when it comes to constructing their lineup for 2023.
Beyond Trout and Ohtani, there aren’t many threats in their lineup as of now.
Fortunately, there are several bats available in free agency that could help the Angels fill their needs.
Names such as Josh Bell, Anthony Rizzo, J.D. Martinez, Joc Pederson, Brandon Drury, and Andrew Benintendi, could be potential fits.
But chances are that the Angels will need more than just one bat to help boost their offensive production and consistency.
Trout and Ohtani are two of the best hitters in all of baseball, but they can only do so much for a lineup without many other threats.
