The San Francisco 49ers currently have one of the youngest quarterback rooms in the NFL.
After letting Jimmy Garoppolo walk in free agency, the 49ers were left with Brock Purdy, Trey Lance, and Sam Darnold at the QB position.
However, Tom Pelissero recently reported that NFL veteran QB Brandon Allen is signing with the team, which adds some experience to the room.
Veteran QB Brandon Allen is signing with the #49ers, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo.
Allen helped mentor Joe Burrow in Cincinnati the past three years. Now Allen joins a young QB room in San Francisco. #TakeItOffMG

Allen is a seven-year veteran who has spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, Denver Broncos, and Cincinnati Bengals.
As Pelissero points out, Allen was a mentor to Joe Burrow and could serve as a valuable teacher to Lance, Purdy, and Darnold.
Darnold was an offseason addition for the 49ers, given the unknowns surrounding Purdy and Lance’s health.
Purdy tore his UCL during the NFC Championship, and Lance is still recovering from an ankle injury.
Will Darnold end up being the starter, or will Allen’s veteran experience cause head coach Kyle Shanahan to give him the Week 1 start?
The 49ers made the NFC Championship last year, which was largely due to Purdy’s success as a rookie.
How will the team respond to start the year now that their quarterback situation is significantly different?
The NFC West has changed after the conclusion of the 2022 season, and the 49ers’ injuries could impact their standing in the division.
The Seattle Seahawks have only gotten better, adding a marquee cornerback and wide receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft.
If the Los Angeles Rams are fully healthy, they should be able to compete at a higher level this season as well.
