Texans Have No Desire To Help Out A Division Rival

The Houston Texans are expecting to field a ton of calls regarding Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson.

After all, the major hurdle for him returning to the field has been essentially cleared.

However, he still has the final say regarding his fate because of his no-trade clause.

But once he joins a new team, he would have to ramp up his preparations for the 2022 season because he hasn’t played for an entire year.

Teams like the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Cleveland Browns are expected to make a push for Watson.

There might be more teams that will try their luck with him, but ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed one team that will not have a chance to negotiate for the prized play-caller.

Houston has declined Indianapolis’ attempt to speak with Deshaun Watson, per source. Houston comfortable trading Watson – just not in the AFC South.

Schefter tweeted, “Houston has declined Indianapolis’ attempt to speak with Deshaun Watson, per source. Houston comfortable trading Watson – just not in the AFC South.”

It does make sense to rule out the Colts as a potential trade partner for the Texans because it would be a torment facing Watson at least twice per season.

However, there’s still a chance that Watson would go to a division rival, especially if he demands a trade to Indianapolis.

The Colts Are An Enticing Destination

The Colts just missed out on a playoff berth despite having two opportunities to clinch a spot.

Now that they’ve traded Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders, they will be seeking their seventh starting quarterback since 2016.

Watson would benefit from an offensive line that has Ryan Kelly, Quenton Nelson, and Eric Fisher.

Likewise, running back Jonathan Taylor would make his life easier.

When it’s time to pass, Watson would have talented targets in Michael Pittman Jr., T.Y. Hilton, and Mo Alie-Cox.

With a $62 million cap space, they can also add more talent to their roster.

Yet it would take a shocking turn of events for the Texans to change their minds.
