Monty Williams is proving to be one of the best head coaches that the Phoenix Suns have ever had.
Under his leadership, the Suns have made the Finals, kept a winning record, and are very close to returning to the championship again.
Yet, a stellar record wasn’t enough to make him win Coach of the Year last season and one fan is pointing out just how silly that now looks.
One season later:
Tom Thibodeau, 2020-21 Coach of the Year – 34-43, eliminated from playoff contention.
Monty Williams, 2020-21 Coach of the Year runner-up – 62-14, 1st place by a wide margin.
Monty was absolutely robbed. It was clear then, and it’s even clearer now.

As pointed out by one Twitter user, 2020-21 Coach of the Year Tom Thibodeau now has a record of 34-43 and his New York Knicks are eliminated from the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Williams, who was runner-up last season, is leading a team that is 62-14 and is in the first place by a large margin.
“Monty was absolutely robbed. It was clear then, and it’s even clearer now,” the tweet says.
It feels hard to argue with that point.
2022 Coach Of The Year?
Williams’ work in Phoenix really should be celebrated and admired.
He has helped the team surge in the last few years and has turned the squad into possibly the best in the league.
More importantly, the Suns have been consistent.
Unlike other teams like the Los Angeles Lakers or Knicks, the Suns keep getting better and remain at a high level of quality season after season.
He is getting the best out of each player too.
Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Jae Crowder, and others on the Suns are playing better than they have in the past, all thanks to Williams understanding their strengths.
The Suns are now the most talented team in the NBA – and they can thank Williams for that.
He’s far more than a runner-up, especially this year.
