Referees have been a talking point in NBA circles way more often than ever this season.
And while some of the times it’s true that the refs are bad for both teams, there are times when the math doesn’t seem to add up.
That was the case during the Phoenix Suns’ 116-104 loss versus the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night.
That’s why coach Monty Williams had plenty to say about the officials after the loss, pointing out the free-throw disparity between both teams.
Williams was livid about the fact that a guy like Devin Booker barely went to the line, while Giannis Antetokounmpo shot 24 free throws, sinking 14 of those.
As a matter of fact, Giannis had more free throws himself than the whole Suns team (14-for.16), with the Suns being called for 26 fouls (plus one technical) to the Bucks’ 15.

It’s not usual to see the visiting side being favored by the whistle, and while Giannis is one of the most aggressive, physical, and unstoppable players in the league, the disparity is worth noting this time.
There’s also plenty of animosity between these two teams — and rightfully so — as they matched up in the NBA Finals just a couple of seasons ago, with the Bucks getting the last laugh after falling down 0-2 in the series.
Both teams might square off on the ultimate stage again this season.
So, clearly, this means more for the Suns, and they need to make a statement now so referees don’t become a factor when it matters the most.
