The 14-6 New York Mets still have the best record in the major leagues as of Friday afternoon.
Without their best pitcher, Jacob deGrom, they have managed to overcome adversity and win game after game.
Blowouts, come-from-behind thrillers, and even some tension-filled games, you name it… and the Mets can probably pull it off.
Everybody deserves credit for the team’s fast start, from the players, the coaches, manager Buck Showalter, general manager Billy Eppler, team president Sandy Alderson, and owner Steve Cohen, not to mention on-field staffers, the analytics department, and other workers.
Speaking of Cohen, one of his wishes is coming to fruition: when he took over his beloved Mets a couple of years ago, he wanted to make them a perennial contender.
A Good Owner Who Is Loved By Fans
It goes well beyond money, which he has in bunches: it’s making the right decisions, bringing in the right people, and pushing the right buttons.
It’s getting involved, but without making all decisions and going above people in charge of baseball.
For Mets fans, Cohen is the owner who lets his people make important decisions (that’s why he gave him prominent roles), but shows he cares.
“This team just continues to roll,” he tweeted recently.

In reality, Cohen is a great owner for an MLB franchise.
He gets involved, he cares, he is not afraid to spend, and he likes to interact with fans on Twitter.
He is not perfect, but the league needs more owners like Cohen, and Mets fans have become very proud of the guy in charge.
And yes, the Mets continue to roll: and if they ever get deGrom back and in-form, they could make an important playoff run.
