The Pittsburgh Steelers are aware of the tough battle they will face this season.
All of their AFC North rivals have what it takes to reach the playoffs, making their division matches tough.
The Cleveland Browns could be a serious threat, especially if Deshaun Watson gets to play.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens will have most of their starters back, including Lamar Jackson.
The Cincinnati Bengals have emerged as a legitimate contender after their run to Super Bowl LVI last season.
The Steelers are not resting on their laurels while hoping that they cruise through the opposition.
That’s why they are looking for talent from other leagues like the United States Football League.
As training camps inch closer, the Steelers tried out five players who played in the USFL this year:
* DT Doug Costin
* DE Freedom Akinmoladun
* DT Domenique Davis
* DT Dondrea Tillman
* DT Willie Yarbary

ESPN’s Field Yates shared that Pittsburgh invited five USFL players to a tryout.
All of them are defensive players and four are defensive tackles: Doug Costin, Domenique Davis, Dondrea Tillman, and Willie Yarbary.
The Steelers also invited defensive end Freedom Akinmoladun.
It’s a great initiative for a franchise that isn’t afraid of breaking barriers.
This time, they would like to see if the USFL can be a source of talent for the NFL.
If the Steelers are successful, more teams will follow suit.
Steelers Focusing On Defense
Once again, the Steelers have decided to hopefully beef up their defense with those men.
Ogunjobi is on a one-year deal and the Steelers might be already finding someone who could eventually replace him.
Meanwhile, they could also use an upgrade from Alualu to strengthen their push up front.
If all goes well, some of those USFL players could pave the way for T.J. Watt to freely chase the other team’s quarterback.
