The Pittsburgh Steelers were in the market for a quarterback for the first time in nearly two decades.
Ben Roethlisberger retired after 18 seasons and the team had no clear-cut succession at quarterback.
Head coach Mike Tomlin once said that both Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins must do more to become the starter.
After all, they have a chance to compete in the AFC given their terrific defense and solid options on offense like Najee Harris, Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson, and Pat Freiermuth.
However, they’ve addressed the void left by Roethlisberger by signing Mitchell Trubisky to a two-year deal that could be worth up to $27 million.
The former UNC standout spent last season as Josh Allen‘s backup with the Buffalo Bills.
Despite playing less, he got massive interest during the offseason when teams spent more time talking about him than the quarterback prospects in the 2022 Scouting Combine.
Trubisky brings his 29-21 record from the Chicago Bears to the Steelers.
This time, he hopes to achieve postseason success in Pittsburgh after losing two playoff games in Chicago.
His arrival should complete the Steelers’ quarterback rotation, as NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported.

Giving Trubisky An Opportunity
While his deal can be worth up to $27 million, $12.75 of it can be earned by meeting certain incentives.
Regardless of the amount he will end up getting, the Steelers are getting a decent quarterback for a price tag below the market value.
If he ends up performing well, Pittsburgh got a bargain and the two sides can negotiate for a contract extension.
If not, the Steelers won’t be caught in a crippling cap situation.
