The Miami Dolphins should’ve never fired Brian Flores.
And while it worked out pretty well for them when they hired Mike McDaniel, Flores is just too good to be an assistant coach in the NFL.
With that in mind, it’s not surprising to see that the Arizona Cardinals have now brought him back for a second interview to become their next Head Coach after just one season serving as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ LBs coach, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
#Steelers senior defensive assistant and LBs coach Brian Flores is expected to have a 2nd interview with the #AZCardinals for their HC job on Wednesday, source said. He also will interview with the #Broncos DC job the day before — and is a top candidate for the #Vikings DC job.

Some thought the Steelers hired Flores so he could be the next in line when HC Mike Tomlin decided to step down, but we don’t see that happening any time soon.
So, unsurprisingly, Flores has garnered plenty of league-wide interest, including positions to serve as the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings’ Defensive Coordinator.
Flores put together one of the league’s most promising defensive units during his days in South Florida, and the Dolphins’ defensive regression since his departure is a testament to his great work in that regard.
The Cardinals could definitely use some improvements on the defensive side of the field, as that was never much of a specialty for Kliff Kingsbury.
He’ll also have a QB with a similar skill set from his Miami days in Kyler Murray, which could help it make a smooth transition if he gets the job.
If not, there’s no doubt that Flores will be a top assistant somewhere else next season, as he’s just too good to stay in the shadows for very much longer.
