The Pittsburgh Steelers have finally settled their depth chart for the 2022 NFL season.

With their campaign just days away, their quarterback rotation was the most pressing concern among their fans.

After all, rookie Kenny Pickett had a strong preseason that may have pushed Mitchell Trubisky out of the starting role.

Meanwhile, Mason Rudolph had pedestrian performances and did not really dazzle in any of the games.

Despite that outcome, the Steelers favor experience over youth with their depth chart, and 93.7 The Fan host Colin Dunlap doesn’t like the call.

Trubisky should be QB1.
But having Kenny Pickett third on the depth chart is gross roster mismanagement.
He won’t get reps as scout QB to develop at proper rate and, also, how in the world is a guy you take in 1st rnd in street clothes on game day?

Dunlap tweeted, “Trubisky should be QB1. But having Kenny Pickett third on the depth chart is gross roster mismanagement. He won’t get reps as scout QB to develop at proper rate, and, also, how in the world is a guy you take in 1st rnd in street clothes on game day? Gross roster mismanagement.”

What’s the sense of selecting him in the first round if they will bury him in the depth chart?

Likewise, does Rudolph generate excitement among the Steelers if Trubisky doesn’t live up to the task?

This decision by head coach Mike Tomlin needs a ton of explanation because developing Pickett should be one of their foremost goals.

Pickett And Rudolph In The Preseason

In general, Pickett had a stronger preseason than Rudolph.

He had 13 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks.

In contrast, Rudolph only had nine passes for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Rudolph had a stronger outing against the Jacksonville Jaguars with 17 completions for 127 yards and a touchdown.

However, Pickett completed six of seven passes for 76 yards and a touchdown.

The former Pitt Panther bounced back with ten passes for 90 yards versus the Detroit Lions.

Sadly, Rudolph did not complete a pass in that game.

Judging on those games, Pickett should have elevated himself second on the depth chart.
