The only good thing about the New York Giants’ season opener versus the Dallas Cowboys is that it ended.
Brian Daboll’s team didn’t look ready to play, and they pretty much waved the white flag as soon as their field goal attempt was taken all the way back for a touchdown in the first quarter.
The loss was so ugly and historically embarrassing that it’s hard to put it into context.
That’s why OptaStats tried to do it, pointing out that no team had ever lost 40-0 or worse, lost the sack battle 7-0 or worse, lost the turnover battle 3-0 or worse, had a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown, and threw a pick-six in the same season, and the Giants did all that in just one game (via The Athletic).

Dan Quinn’s defense obliterated every single thing the Giants attempted, and they had to give up and change their gameplan almost right away.
Obviously, Saquon Barkley was a non-factor, granted that they were trailing by double digits for most of the game.
History has shown that forcing Daniel Jones to play quarterback and be the guy to lead the Giants to a win has rarely worked, and yesterday wasn’t the case, either.
Jones didn’t look like a quarterback worthy of making $40 million per year, and even though he didn’t get any help from his offensive line, he just can’t seem to be able to beat the Cowboys.
That’s not great news if you happen to play in the same division as them.
