Offense wins games.
Defense wins championships.
That’s a common mantra that teams in professional sports live by, whether it be in baseball, basketball, football, or hockey.
The San Diego Padres appear to have taken it to heart early on this season.
Their defense has been impressive thus far through the first 11 games of the regular season, so much so that they have yet to commit a single error.
In fact, according to MLB insider Jesse Agler, the 2022 Padres are the first team in baseball history to have opened the season with 11 straight errorless games.
That’s how good their defense has been.

Doing The Little Things
When things such as this happen, people in the sports world always turn to a common term: unprecedented.
Obviously, it makes sense.
This is something that has never been done in the history of baseball.
The Padres are the first team to ever accomplish this.
And playing good defense is key to not only winning games, but also being a championship contender.
This is a good start for a team that took an epic plunge in the second half of the 2021 season and fell short of the postseason.
They currently sit at 6-5 and are two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants, who are tied atop the NL West at 7-2.
But playing good defense is paramount for any ballclub and it’s what matters most if you are trying to build a contender.
It shows that you’re doing the little things right.
We’ll see if the Padres can keep this up.
At this rate, they look like a strong postseason contender and their stock will only rise if they continue to do the little things right and play good defense day in and day out.
