The Pittsburgh Steelers finished the season strong, but it was just too little, too late.
Of course, watching Kenny Pickett slowly come along and Mike Tomlin keeping his ‘no losing seasons’ streak alive was cool and all, but it feels like this team could’ve and should’ve made the playoffs.
In fact, when looking at the playoff picture with Tua Tagovailoa getting hurt, ESPN’s Michael Wilbon believes it would’ve been better if the Steelers had gotten that spot, competition-wise:
“I think Pittsburgh was the team I’d — You say, ok, you can name a team to get that spot. What would it be? It’d be the Steelers!” Wilbon said. “Based on the way they had played these last few weeks. Based on the evolution of their quarterback and their team and that coach’s history. We know he brings that team along, gradually, but certainly.”

There’s no denying that the Dolphins could be a legit dark horse with a healthy Tua, but that won’t be the case, even if he’s ready to suit up for their matchup vs. the Buffalo Bills.
The Steelers, on the other hand, have a proven coach that has constantly found ways to get the job done, even when it’s not pretty at all.
Still, Steelers fans should be quite excited for the future.
Pickett may have done just enough to grant himself another chance to prove that he can be their franchise QB, and you know they’ll always have a shot to win for as long as Mike Tomlin is there.
