Houston Astros center fielder Chas McCormick made the catch of his life and the World Series last night in Game 5 against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Without that incredible defensive play, Phillies slugger Bryce Harper would have gotten an at-bat with a man in scoring position, one out, and a run down in the score against a tired Ryan Pressly.
But that didn’t happen thanks to McCormick, who ran and leaped to catch J.T. Realmuto’s potential double (or triple) at the wall.
The catch was so impressive that Twitter went absolutely crazy.
Renowned analyst Skip Bayless even declared the Astros as the World Series winners already.
“CONGRATS TO THE ASTROS FOR WINNING THE 2022 WORLD SERIES, THANKS IN LARGEST PART TO CHAS MCCORMICK’S CLUTCH CATCH CLIMBING THE CENTER FIELD WALL,” he tweeted.

The Most Impactful Play Of The World Series
In reality, the catch was perhaps the most impactful play of the Fall Classic so far.
The Phillies would have probably tied the game at the very least, perhaps even won it, although it’s impossible to prove.
For the Astros, the difference between going to Houston up 3-2 rather than down 2-3 is huge.
Now, they just need to win one of their two remaining home games; one of which will be behind a stellar starter in Framber Valdez.
All thanks to McCormick.
After his catch, Harper reached base against Pressly, but the Astros closer was able to get Nick Castellanos to ground out and end the game.
Bayless, other analysts, and fans know that Houston is now in an enviable position to win their first World Series since 2017.
They will have to do it on the field, though, and the Phillies won’t surrender.
