Simple Tweet Sums Up The Truth About NBA Fans

By Brandon Marcus July 28, 2022 @JumpBallBrandon

An NBA logo is shown at the 5th Avenue NBA store on March 12, 2020 in New York City. The National Basketball Association said they would suspend all games after player Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz reportedly tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

It isn’t easy being an NBA superstar.

That isn’t just because playing in the league is intensely competitive and demanding and physically exhausting.

It’s also because you have many expectations to live up to and many goals to achieve and many fans to keep happy.

It also seems like no matter what choice is made, someone is going to be upset.

You have to have thick skin to be in the NBA, that’s for sure.

NBA Memes made a stunningly accurate point about fandom on Twitter.

They pointed out that when players leave a team to win a championship ring, fans are upset.

At the same time, when players decide to stay with a struggling team, fans are upset too.

It’s a lose-lose situation for some superstars: no matter what they decide to do, they will experience a backlash.

Durant & Dame

The tweet featured a picture of Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets and Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Both of these men have been criticized for how they treat their teams.

For Durant, people say he cuts and runs in favor of seeking squads with better championship odds.

With Lillard, people claim that he is too loyal and doesn’t make moves best for him, in favor of sticking with his original squad.

Both athletes receive similar heat for wildly different situations.

Despite the stark opinions leveled at them, both Durant and Lillard remain two of the best players around.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens to them in the next few seasons: it is quite clear that at least one of them will pack their bags and head elsewhere.

When that happens, expect to hear quite a response.
