Shohei Ohtani Set A Sad And Almost Impossible Mark On Tuesday

The Los Angeles Angels and the Kansas City Royals played an incredible game on Tuesday night.

The Royals ended up prevailing 12-11 in 11 innings, a true marathon that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Two-way star Shohei Ohtani had an incredible performance on the night: he went 3-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored, and a whopping eight (!) RBI.

Unfortunately for him and the Angels, Bobby Witt Jr., who entered the season as the number one prospect in baseball, also had a fantastic game.

The impressive rookie went 3-for-5 with a double and two home runs in fascinating slugging display.

He scored two times and drove in four runs in total, lifting his team to the victory.

Ohtani, as a result, came up empty-handed in a collective point of view.

The Angels Failed To Support Ohtani Against The Royals

His excellent all-around performance went to waste, as incredible as it sounds.

“Shohei Ohtani is the only MLB player to drive in 8+ runs and yet have his team never hold the lead in the game (since RBI became an official stat in 1920),” Stats by STATS tweeted.

Imagine driving in eight runs in a game and seeing your team lose: that has to be rough for Ohtani, or any player for that matter.

Not only did Angels starter Reid Detmers fail to pitch a competent game (five runs allowed in five innings), but four of the six relievers Los Angeles used last night allowed earned runs.

That’s not going to cut it: if the Angels want to look like their early-season version and win some games, the pitching staff will need to do a better job.
