Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani continues to draw comparisons to late great Babe Ruth.
Not since the Great Bambino have we seen a player of this caliber who can pitch like an ace and hit a bunch of home runs.
The Angels are currently at Fenway Park playing the Boston Red Sox, which was Babe Ruth’s original team before he was sold off to the New York Yankees prior to the 1920 season.
Today, Ohtani is making a little history at Fenway.
He is the first starting pitcher since Ruth himself to bat in the top four spots of a lineup in Boston.
Ruth did it on September 20, 1919.

Matching The Bambino
This is a fun little bit of history.
Ohtani is often compared to Ruth when people talk about his ability to both pitch and hit.
Now, he gets to make some history at Ruth’s old stomping grounds, batting third in the Angels’ lineup for their series finale against the Red Sox.
Ohtani is still early in his career, so he’s got a long way to go before he can match Ruth in every category, but for now, he’s giving everybody shades of Ruth and drawing those legendary comparisons to the Great Bambino.
It would be some poetic justice if the Angels can beat the Red Sox today with Ohtani matching Ruth.
It was the Red Sox that sold Ruth to the Yankees, kicking off the “Curse of the Bambino,” which has been over for a long time.
But it would still remind the fans of how they let one great two-way player go if the next one can do some damage against them in Ruth’s old ballpark.
