Though this may be Shohei Ohtani’s last season as a member of the Los Angeles Angels, he certainly is still producing at a high level for the team.
On Wednesday night, he hit his 42nd home run of the year, putting himself just one behind Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson for the Major League lead.
It’s no secret that Ohtani is a special ballplayer, but his 42nd home run was more than just your average home run.
It was the 42nd home run of the year for the pitcher who leads the Major Leagues in opponent batting average.
On Twitter, Sarah Langs posted a video of the home run and took note of this impressive stat.
THE MLB LEADER AMONG QUALIFIED PITCHERS IN OPPONENT BATTING AVERAGE JUST HIT HIS AL-LEADING 42ND HOME RUN OF THE YEAR
OHTANI IS UNREAL https://t.co/LxtfNhkJC6

While Ohtani swung the bat, his helmet actually came off of his head.
However, that didn’t deter the MLB leader in opponent batting average from hitting his 42nd homer of the season.
The two-way star may be one behind Olson for the MLB lead, but he is at the top in the American League, 10 above Luis Robert Jr. and 12 above Adolis Garcia.
And so, the great work continues for Ohtani, who is arguably the best player in all of baseball today.
This is a truly impressive statistic, and it goes to show just how dominant Ohtani is on both sides of the ball.
He’s already a Cy Young-caliber pitcher, but can hit like an MVP and he is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
The great work continues for one of baseball’s brightest stars, who is soon to be a rich man this winter.
