The Denver Broncos were perhaps the biggest disappointment in the NFL this season.
They were supposed to have a revamped offense with Russell Wilson behind center and Nathaniel Hackett working his offensive magic.
Instead, they had one of the worst, most boring offenses in the league, with Wilson looking like a washed-out player and Hackett proving to be way over his head from day one.
Things got so bad that Hackett even had to hire an assistant to help him with clock-management decisions, one of the most basic responsibilities for a head coach.
So, it’s not a surprise to see that this new ownership wants to get things right this time, which is why they’ve brought in Sean Payton for an interview about the gig.
Notably, NFL insider Mark Maske reported that Payton had lost interest in coaching the Broncos after the visit, as he thought there could be a bit of a power struggle with the ownership.
The veteran coach didn’t waste a second to dismiss that rumor, stating that the owners were actually fantastic and he had a great interview.
Zero truth to this. We had a great visit and@Broncos Ownership was fantastic!! https://t.co/PU9dP50bSg

Payton is the biggest name available for hire, and he should give this decision plenty of thought.
The Broncos most likely just hired Hackett in an attempt to get Aaron Rodgers, but now they’re stuck with Wilson for years to come.
They already have an outstanding defense and plenty of talent on their offense.
But could Payton bring Wilson back to MVP form?
That’s the big question.
