The Denver Broncos wanted to make a splash with their next head coach hire.
The team has failed to win more than seven games in any of the past six seasons.
Also, they have had three different head coaches in that span.
But, this offseason they acquired the top name on the coaching carousel in Sean Payton.
The former New Orleans Saints head coach is hoping to be the one that can fix their offense.
More specifically, fixing quarterback Russell Wilson.
Payton has a long history of being very successful in the regular season.
He has a career 152-89 record and even has one Super Bowl title.
Payton has consistently put together top-five offenses in the NFL, and he will need that again in Denver.
But first, Payton is looking to put together a staff of other good coaches.
One of his first hires was Zach Strief to take over as offensive line coach.
The #Broncos are expected to hire Zach Strief as their new O-line coach, source said. The long-time #Saints offensive lineman standout and favorite of Sean Payton, he quickly ascended in the coaching ranks after serving as assistant OL coach. Now lands in Denver.

For Payton, building a staff of people he knows and trust is crucial.
He will be expected to win next year in Denver, with a playoff berth as the expectation.
Playing in the AFC West is no small task for Payton and the Broncos.
They will have to consistently contend with the Kansas City Chiefs who have dominated the division for years.
It will be interesting to see who Payton decides to hire as his defensive coordinator.
The Broncos’ defense was one of the best in the league last year, but their DC left to join the Carolina Panthers.
One name Denver intends to interview for their DC is Brian Flores, who is a great defensive mind.
It will be interesting to see which way Payton goes with his staff, hiring the right assistants can make all the difference.
