Money is flowing through the Denver Broncos organization.
Last month, NFL owners approved the franchise’s sale to the Walton-Penner family for $4.65 billion.
That amount is the highest-ever paid for a sports team, and it will only go up from there.
Now that they have a new ownership team, they have decided to lock in their starting quarterback for the long term.
The Broncos and All-Pro quarterback Russell Wilson agreed to a five-year, $245 million deal, including $165 million in guaranteed money.
The contract makes him a Bronco until 2028, when he will be 40 years old.
Therefore, the organization is giving him enough time to hopefully deliver another Vince Lombardi Trophy to the Mile High City.
Ironically, veteran quarterbacks have a thing about bringing a Super Bowl victory to Denver.
John Elway won Super Bowl XXXII against the Green Bay Packers at age 36, while Peyton Manning won Super Bowl 50 at 39.
Meanwhile, as ESPN’s Field Yates shared, Wilson’s new contract makes him the second highest-paid quarterback in the league in terms of annual average value.

The Packers’ Aaron Rodgers tops the list at $50.271 million after getting a three-year, $150.8 million extension.
After Wilson is Kyler Murray at $46.1 million, while Deshaun Watson is fourth at $46 million.
Patrick Mahomes completes the top five at $45 million.
Resetting The Quarterback Market
Four of the five deals Yates shared were completed this offseason, with Rodgers getting a three-year, $150.8 million contract.
Meanwhile, Watson’s deal is rare because it is fully guaranteed for five years.
On the other hand, Mahomes owns the richest contract in sports (ten years, $450 million).
With the ceiling set by these players, prices will only go up from there.
That reality should be in favor for players like Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, and Joe Burrow.
