The National Football League needed to do something to fix the Pro Bowl.
The game was losing viewers by the year, as there was no actual incentive to tune in and watch players who didn’t want to be there barely touching each other for a meaningless game.
So, the league came up with the idea of some flag football games instead, and it was kind of successful, all things considered.
Notably, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell didn’t want to take credit for that idea, though, as he recently admitted that it was Russell Wilson the one who contacted him with that proposal:
Russell Wilson called Roger Goodell the Tuesday after last year’s Pro Bowl and said “let’s have a flag football game.” This year, the NFL changed it to a flag football game.
Mr. Unlimited, indeed.

It was a complicated season for Wilson and the Denver Broncos, but at least he managed to save the day with this idea and bring back some entertainment to the Pro Bowl.
Now, Wilson must be focusing on bouncing back after having the worst season of his career, but at least he can rest assured that the Broncos will be in a much better position this season now that Sean Payton has taken over Nathaniel Hackett.
The Broncos were perhaps the most disappointing team in the NFL, failing to make the playoffs despite boasting an elite defense and a stacked offensive core.
Wilson failed to hit his receivers in stride and made head-scratching mistakes that were quite uncharacteristic for a guy with his experience.
But he’s just too good to be counted out, so maybe we won’t get to watch him in next year’s Pro Bowl as the Broncos put together a deep postseason run.
