Heading into Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, the New York Jets were flying high with the storied franchise finally back to relevancy in the NFL with superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers leading the way.
Unfortunately, a few plays into his stint with the Jets, Rodgers went down with what has now been determined to be a torn Achilles tendon, which has ended his season and put the rest of his career in the NFL in doubt, as he’s set to turn 40 in December.
Few players in professional sports are able to get back to form after suffering an Achilles tear, especially when they’re at an advanced age like Rodgers.
That said, it’s doubtful Rodgers will be the same player once he’s able to get back on the field, which has led some to believe that he’d retire rather than return to the Jets next season.
According to Jets head coach Robert Saleh, retirement doesn’t appear to be on the mind of the four-time NFL MVP, as he’d be shocked if his quarterback made the decision to walk away from the game, via Dov Kleiman.
In a press conference, #Jets head coach Robert Saleh adds that he would be "Shocked" if Aaron Rodgers will retire next year because of his injury.
Doesn't seem like Aaron Rodgers wants to end his career like that and would prefer to end things on his own terms. He'll be… https://t.co/Lm2DrZcz4k pic.twitter.com/BVSL048SD5

With Rodgers only a couple of days into the injury, this is an interesting development as he’ll have quite the process to go through to get back on the field, but he seems confident he can continue playing, which bodes well for the Jets.
The real question now is what the Jets do to account for the absence of Rodgers for the rest of the season because Zach Wilson still doesn’t seem like a player who can take this team very far.
