Somehow, someway, the Cincinnati Reds managed to pull off a series win over the weekend against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
This is a team that is off to its worst start in franchise history and has an MLB worst 5-23 record through its first 28 games.
They lost several key pieces from their 83-win team in 2021 over the offseason and the injuries have mounted for them.
But for the first time all season long, the Reds have finally won a series, taking two out of three from the Pirates.
After Sunday’s game was complete, the Reds tweeted about their accomplishment.
In all honesty, it’s actually quite a sad tweet.

This One Belongs To The Reds
The fact that this is the first series win for the Reds all season long is a pretty depressing fact if you’re a fan.
The fans continue to be frustrated with owner Bob Castellini and the team’s front office.
It’s still clear that the Reds don’t have any intention on contending, as evidenced by their odd tanking strategy prior to the start of the season, so there’s still plenty of reason for the fans to be angry and irritated.
But a series win is a series win, and you’ll take those anytime you can get them.
Though it’s not much, it has to feel good for the Reds to finally get one.
It is still sad though that it took them this long.
As bad as they’ve been, this isn’t a team that is completely devoid of talent.
There’s still Joey Votto, Jonathan India, Mike Moustakas, and Luis Castillo.
Other than that, it’s slim pickings for the Red Legs.
We’ll see if they can manage another series win here in the next few months or so.
