If you have been following baseball in the last month, you are very much aware of the fact that the Boston Red Sox have been awful in July.
They were in the thick of things for much of the first half, alternating with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays between the second and fourth place in the AL East; behind the New York Yankees and ahead of the Baltimore Orioles.
But no so fast.
The Sox have suffered injuries, slumps, and showcased horrible defense and ineffective pitching in the last few weeks, leading to a horrendous July filled with disappointment, boos, and ugly losses.
“Red Sox are 6-16 in July and have allowed 156 runs, an average of 7.09 a game. They’re in last place in the division,” Red Sox insider Pete Abraham tweeted.

That last part is particularly painful.
Even The Orioles Have Played Better Than The Red Sox
Everybody made fun of the Orioles in the last few seasons, as they used to finish last by a significant number of games.
But they have definitely improved in 2022 and now look like a serious organization.
The Red Sox?
Not so much.
They managed to get as far as the American League Championship Series last year, but 2022 has been a never-ending nightmare.
They currently hold a 49-49 record after dropping eight of their last 10 games.
The O’s, on the other hand, are currently at 49-48, over .500 after 97 games.
Who would have predicted such a scenario?
The season is still not over for the Red Sox: with a winning streak, they can get back in contention for a playoffs spot.
However, they aren’t looking as solid as last year, and will need an active trade deadline to bring in the necessary improvements to get out of their rut.
