The 2022 season was nothing short of a disappointment for the Boston Red Sox, who finished in last place in the AL East with a 78-84 record on the heels of an improbable run to the ALCS in 2021.
But on this day, October 20, we look back on one of their greatest ALCS accomplishments.
Let’s go back 18 years ago, when the Red Sox trailed the New York Yankees 3-0 in the ALCS.
Clutch at-bats by Kevin Millar, Bill Mueller, and David Ortiz, plus Dave Roberts’ stolen base helped them win Games 4 and 5.
Curt Schilling dominated the Yankees in Game 6, the “Bloody Sock” game, setting up Game 7.
In that Game 7, Boston jumped on the Yankees and never looked back.
Alan Embree recorded the final out and the greatest comeback in postseason history was complete.
It’s now been 18 years since the Red Sox completed the greatest comeback in sports history.
NEVER EVER forget, the Yankees blew a 3-0 lead in the ALCS.

Remembering An Epic Comeback
Not since the Red Sox completed their epic comeback in ’04 has a team accomplished this.
Boston became the first team to ever win a series after trailing 3-0.
Johnny Damon had the game of his life, driving in six runs on two homers, one of which was a grand slam.
Something like this may never be accomplished again.
Being down 3-0 is usually a death sentence, but the Red Sox refused to quit.
Following their epic comeback, Boston easily beat the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series, pulling off a four-game sweep against a team that had won 105 games during the regular season.
The 2004 Red Sox were a special team that consisted of the right mix of veterans and young players.
And they did something that the Red Sox hadn’t done since 1918, breaking the “Curse of the Bambino.”
But it all started with their epic comeback in the ALCS and their refusal to surrender.
