Red Sox Fans Are Fed Up With Franchy Cordero

The Boston Red Sox are 49-50, with a couple of losses in a row and eight defeats in their last 10 games.

Nothing seems to be going their way as of late: they are currently the last-place team in the AL East, just a few months after playing in the AL Championship Series.

Their offense is cold, their pitching has been atrocious as of late, and it’s hard to find words to describe their defense.

Seriously, it’s not easy.

Just look at this:

A fielding error and a throwing error by the same player in a matter of three seconds.

That’s unbelievable.

The guy in the video is Franchy Cordero.

To his defense, he is not really a first baseman: he is a natural outfielder.

He is not particularly good out there either.

Fans Have Had Enough Of Cordero

If you take a look at the replies on that tweet, you will see that fans are fed up with him.

They want general manager Chaim Bloom to find another solution to play at first base, a position that has been a problem in the last couple of years.

They have improvised several players there, without much success.

Perhaps it would be different if Cordero was hitting, but ever since coming over from the Kansas City Royals in the original Andrew Benintendi trade, he hasn’t shown the skills that make him such a promising player.

In 2021, he had a .497 OPS.

This year, it’s at .660: a little better, but well-below the league average.

Cordero is easy to strike out and doesn’t make consistent contact, and is a liability at the plate and on the field.

It’s hard to justify having him on the roster.
