Since the Mookie Betts trade, many Boston Red Sox fans have voiced their displeasure with the team’s front office.
Stars such as Andrew Benintendi have also been traded in recent years.
However, it hasn’t completely stopped the Red Sox from being competitive.
While 2020 and 2022 were disappointing seasons, the 2021 season was surprisingly successful, as the Sox won 92 games, earned a Wild Card spot, and made a surprise run to the ALCS.
In reference to that run, a Red Sox analyst called out the fanbase of the New York Yankees for supposedly acting as if the Sox have been “down so bad,” citing the fact that in ’21, Boston took the Houston Astros to six games in the ALCS without Betts, whereas in ’22, the Yankees were swept by the Astros with Aaron Judge on their side.
I love how Yankee fans act like the Red Sox have been down so bad since the Mookie trade when the Sox took the Astros to six games without Betts, and the Yankees got swept WITH Aaron Judge.

Granted, in recent years the Yankees have been more successful than the Red Sox.
Since their 2018 World Series title, the Red Sox have reached the postseason just once, whereas the Yankees have been in the postseason each of the past six seasons.
But there are some interesting points made here.
The Yankees also won 99 games in 2022 and were the second seed in the American League.
In 2021, the Red Sox were a Wild Card team and playing as the underdogs for most of the postseason and fared better against the Astros than the Yankees did the following year.
So while the Red Sox have endured their fair share of struggles since losing Betts, the team has not been devoid of success.
