Contract talks are still dragging out between DK Metcalf and the Seattle Seahawks.
With both sides still not coming to an agreement, it’s time for the Seahawks to move on from the young receiver.
While the team has originally come out saying they wouldn’t trade him, things might point to now being the best time to move on from him.
So what are three reasons for the Seahawks to trade their star receiver in 2022?
3. He Is Dug In With What He Wants
The contract talks between both sides have gone on for quite a while now.
However, Metcalf is set with whatever he wants in a new contract.
He’s showing up to practice, but refusing to take part in the practice sessions.
Seahawks’ WR DK Metcalf has joined 49ers’ WR Deebo Samuel and Chargers’ S Derwin James as players who are at training camp but not practicing due to unresolved contract issues, per sources.

This is a problem for the Seahawks if they aren’t willing to give their star wide receiver a contract he wants.
He’s clearly willing to stick his ground, which is good for him in getting a deal that best suits him.
However, it’s bad if they aren’t willing to bend for Metcalf.
So a trade would help them get out of an unpleasant situation if they aren’t willing to fix things.
2. A Trade Gets Seattle Something If They Aren’t Willing To Give Metcalf An Extension
If contract talks continue to stall, a trade gets the Seahawks something out of a deal for him.
They can get multiple draft picks in return for trading Metcalf to a new team.
With this NFL season seeing so many high-value receivers getting new deals with a new trade, the Seahawks could get whatever they want for him.
So a trade now would benefit them the most with many NFL teams desperate for a star receiver.
The disparity in trade markets:
NFL:
Tyreek Hill arguably the best wide receiver in the league behind Devante acquired by the dolphins for 5-first round picks. That's itNBA:
2X DPOY Rudy Gobert acquired by the timberwolves for FIVE first-round picks and FIVE players. Crazy.— AndroidAndrew (@drewnukem05) July 26, 2022
It is the best option for him, as they seem to be in the stages of a rebuild.
So going all out for draft picks for 2023 and beyond is the best option for the franchise.
1. Trading Metcalf Would Get Rid Of Any Distractions In Seattle
With Metcalf at practice, but not playing, it serves as a distraction.
Between the press asking questions about his contract and why he’s sitting out, it doesn’t help with keeping the team focused.
By making a trade, they would keep these people from asking these distracting questions about Metcalf.
It could also be an issue for players who are seeing their teammate idly on the sidelines.
This is something the Seahawks can’t afford with them getting ready for the 2022 NFL season.
Players like Geno Smith and Drew Lock, two quarterbacks fighting for the starting job, need all their players on the field.
They also need to focus on making the right steps in preparing for the regular season.
Having reporters ask them questions about their teammate and how his holdout is going doesn’t help improve their game play.
That’s why making that hard decision to move on from Metcalf is one they should do now.
If they don’t match his offer, the distractions will only go away with a trade deal.
