The Baltimore Ravens traded Marquise Brown to the Arizona Cardinals.
In return, the Ravens received Arizona’s 23rd and 100th overall selections.
It was revealed that Brown quietly asked for a trade from the Ravens because he didn’t like the way he was used on offense.
While he had 1,008 yards last season, he could have gotten more if he played in a more dynamic offense.
Joining the Cardinals gives him more one-on-one matchups because other defensive backs must cover Rondale Moore, DeAndre Hopkins, and Zach Ertz.
Brown would like to maximize his talents in hopes of getting a lucrative contract.
In 2022, he will be playing in the final year of his rookie deal.
The Cardinals will also pick up his fifth-year option, making him a bargain for two seasons.
But Kyler Murray can help him rack up the yards and the touchdowns because of Arizona’s devastating passing attack.
That scenario wouldn’t happen in Baltimore, especially after a tweet posted on the NFL on CBS Twitter account.
Most rushing yards since 2018
Ravens 11,287
Titans 9,340
Seahawks 8,805
Browns 8,639
Colts 8,384 pic.twitter.com/eXhXEDQNGp— NFL on CBS 🏈 (@NFLonCBS) May 10, 2022
The list shows the Ravens as the NFL team with the most rushing yards since 2018.
That year coincides with the year Baltimore drafted Lamar Jackson.
The Run Game Is King For The Ravens
The Ravens live and die with the run, especially because of Jackson’s speed.
He can take off when the play isn’t materializing which often results into big gains on the ground.
Even without J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards last season, the Ravens remained the third-best running game in the league at 145.8 yards per game.
Baltimore’s preference for the run put Brown’s contract prospects in jeopardy.
The Ravens could low-ball him given his production, which is not his fault.
Unfortunately, the system wasn’t built for him, forcing Brown to walk away.
