Jacob deGrom is set for the next chapter of his career.
After nine seasons with the New York Mets, the veteran right-hander bolted for the Texas Rangers during the offseason, signing a five-year, $185 million contract to become the team’s new ace.
He’ll join Martin Perez, Jake Odorizzi, Andrew Heaney, and Nathan Eovaldi in a stacked starting rotation.
Today is the first day of spring training for the Rangers, and deGrom is ready to begin the next stage of his career with a new organization.
On Twitter, the Rangers celebrated the start of spring training by posting a picture of the two-time National League Cy Young winner walking into camp, with the caption “deGrom clocking in.”

As spring nears, so too, does baseball season.
It’s been a long winter, full of excitement and crazy offseason activity.
The signing of deGrom by the Rangers comes to mind.
But he’s set to lead a revamped starting rotation and help guide the Rangers back to prominence.
Texas lost 94 games in 2022, but look prepared to do some damage in 2023.
It’ll be a tight race in the AL West.
But having deGrom at the top of their rotation should give them a chance to compete with the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, and Seattle Mariners.
The Rangers have not reached the postseason since 2016, having finished below .500 in each of the past six seasons.
Spring is in the air, and so is baseball.
With the addition of deGrom and other veteran pitchers, the Rangers look prepared to usher in a new era, one that includes winning and success.
