Things may get a little spiced up over the weekend when two rivals of the National League East division meet for a three-game set at Citi Field in New York.

The New York Mets will play host to the Philadelphia Phillies starting tonight.

Tylor Megill will take the mound for New York, while the Phillies counter with Aaron Nola.

The Mets and Phillies have always had a very fierce rivalry, one that spans over decades.

One Phillies writer for The Athletic, Matt Gelb, predicts that there may be some fireworks over the weekend, as there were just a few days ago in St. Louis.

The Phillies have hit the most batters in all of baseball, while the Mets have been hit by the most pitches in all of baseball.

Looking forward to a totally normal weekend series between the Phillies (whose pitchers have hit the most batters in baseball) and Mets (whose hitters have been hit by the most pitches in baseball).

Tensions Incoming

This is a concerning stat for both sides.

As we saw with in the Mets’ recent series with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Mets are sick and tired of being hit by pitches.

With some bad blood in the air already with these two teams and the fact that the Phillies have hit a ton of batters this year, the emotional state of each team will be noticeably ratcheted up.

The Mets are done with being drilled and they made that perfectly clear in St. Louis when the benches cleared after a high and tight pitch to Nolan Arenado.

There may just be some fireworks between the Mets and the Phils, two teams that already do not like each other.

Tensions will be high, and the Mets will be ready to defend themselves the second one of their batters gets hit.

We’ll see if things get heated.
