The Philadelphia Phillies came into the 2023 offseason looking to improve their roster.
Their front office was aggressive in making a few moves that could put the team over the top.
Of all the moves they made, signing shortstop Trea Turner was the most impactful.
It is rare for a player like Turner to hit free agency.
But, once he did the Phillies jumped on the chance to sign him.
Everyone around the team has to be happy with the addition of Turner.
Phillies legend Ryan Howard even spoke out about his approval of the team’s offseason moves.
Especially the signing of Turner.

Howard compared Turner to another Phillies legend, Chase Utley.
While they are different players, Utley was a fan favorite throughout his career.
If Turner can become the same that would be beneficial to the whole organization.
The last time the Phillies won the World Series was in 2008.
When both Howard and Utley were a part of the team.
Now Turner is going to have plenty of pressure to take the Phillies over the top.
Some of the other impact moves the Phillies made this offseason include adding Taijuan Walker and Craig Kimbrel.
Walker should slide into the Phillies rotation as their number four starter.
He should be one of the best fourth starters in baseball next year.
Also, the Phillies addressed their bullpen woes.
Signing Craig Kimbrel and trading for Gregory Soto both should be impact moves.
They could use either in the closer’s role, but Soto seems more likely at this moment.
Either way, the Phillies are much improved heading into 2023.
But, the pressure is on them to make another run at the World Series.
