Phillies Having A Quick Turnaround Without Joe Girardi

After a 22-29 start to the 2022 regular season, the Philadelphia Phillies cut ties with their manager Joe Girardi.

After signing Nick Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber to boost the offense, the Phillies had been one of baseball’s biggest disappointments thus far.

But Girardi was let go on Friday morning and the reins were handed over to Rob Thomson, who is filling the role in an interim capacity.

Things looked a little better over the weekend when the Phillies swept the Los Angeles Angels and sent them to their 11th straight loss.

Bob Nightengale pointed out an interesting stat on Twitter about the amount of runs the Phils had scored in Girardi’s final six games as manager, and the amount of runs they’ve scored in Thomson’s first three games.

The #Phillies scored 26 runs in Joe Girardi's final 6 games; they had a 1-5 record.

Phils’ About To Get Hot?

It’s too early to tell, but it’s looking like the managerial change is working out just fine for the Phillies, who have now won four in a row and have come to within 4.5 games of the third NL Wild Card spot.

They just seemed to be more in sync over the weekend.

Granted, the Angels have really been scuffling, but you’ll take wins any way you can get them, and you’ll take them against any team.

What we saw over the weekend is more or less what most people expected out of the Phillies this season.

They were predicted to be in the mix for the postseason after a busy offseason, even having a chance to challenge the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves.

The NL East title is pretty far out of reach at the moment, but it’s never too late to turn it on and win some games.

Perhaps Thomson is the perfect man for the job.
