The Philadelphia Phillies made it all the way to the World Series this season.
They fell to the Houston Astros in six games, but did come relatively close to earning wins in Games 5 and 6 and were competitive all series.
It’s a good time to be a Phillies fan: they may or may not make a run at the NL East division next year, but as long as they make the playoffs, it won’t matter because they are built to compete in October.
With two aces, an excellent top-five in the lineup and a few excellent relievers, the Phillies came two wins shy from taking the Fall Classic.
Imagine what they can do with a full offseason ahead and money to spend.
“Dave Dombrowski said they have flexibility to add another high-salary player with so much money coming off the books this year,” Phillies writer Todd Zolecki tweeted.

The Phillies Have A Lot Of Money Coming Off The Books
Pitchers Zach Eflin, Kyle Gibson, Brad Hand, Corey Knebel, David Robertson, and Noah Syndergaard, plus second baseman Jean Segura are all hitting free agency.
Between them, they made a lot of millions in 2022 and will now be off the books.
What does that mean?
Philadelphia will have ample financial flexibility to build a roster capable of making another deep postseason run.
Of course, that also means they will need to re-make their bullpen again, and bring in at least a couple of starters.
But they will have money to do that and dream big: think shortstop Trea Turner, or a similar player.
These same Phillies plus one or two elite additions, and they might have a great chance of winning it all next year.
