The Philadelphia Phillies enjoyed a surprising run to the World Series in 2022 after barely sneaking into the postseason as the final National League Wild Card team.
Philadelphia took down the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, and San Diego Padres before being eliminated themselves by the Houston Astros.
But the run may not have been possible without a clutch hit from Jean Segura in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series.
With the Phillies trailing 2-1 in St. Louis, two outs away from a loss, Segura picked up a key hit off of Andre Pallante to put them ahead, where they would stay as they earned the win in Game 1.
Segura recently departed for the Miami Marlins, but Phillies fans aren’t about to forget his contributions.
On Twitter, one fan posted a nice farewell message along with the highlight of his big hit against the Cards.

The Phillies had made it clear that at the onset of the offseason, they would be looking for a shortstop, which effectively put Segura out of the shuffle, with Bryson Stott shifting over to second base.
Philadelphia landed Trea Turner on an 11-year, $300 million contract.
That put an end to Segura’s tenure with the Phillies.
Still, their run to the World Series may not have been possible without this clutch hit.
Philadelphia was two outs away from dropping Game 1, and though they won Game 2, there were no guarantees for Game 3, as the Cardinals had both Jack Flaherty and Adam Wainwright available.
But because of Segura, the Phils made quick work of St. Louis.
