The Philadelphia Phillies have had a pretty big offseason following their surprise run to the World Series in 2022.
After falling short against the Houston Astros, the team has made some key additions.
They added veteran shortstop Trea Turner on an 11-year, $300 million contract, signed right-hander Taijuan Walker to a four-year, $72 million deal, and added relievers Matt Strahm, Craig Kimbrel, and Gregory Soto.
Earlier on Monday, Phillies announcer Tom McCarthy joined “The Mad Dog” Christopher Russo to discuss what the Phillies have done this offseason and how things are looking for the team as they head into 2023 with the goal of making a return trip to the World Series.

McCarthy first dove into the Turner signing, explaining what the deal means for the Phillies.
He discussed how after the World Series was over, the Phillies were adamant that Turner was their top target.
He also talked about how the elimination of the shift will help Turner and third baseman Alec Bohm defensively.
McCarthy then went on to discuss the pitching additions and how in the bullpen, there really won’t be much competition for roles with three reliable relievers being added to the fold.
Russo followed up with a question about Bryce Harper, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery.
McCarthy stated that by the middle or end of June, Harper should be okay to start hitting, similarly to how he did during the regular season in 2022, while comparing the situation to Shohei Ohtani‘s Tommy John recovery.
He also stated that after the All-Star break, Harper should be ready to go in full capacity, both at the plate and in the outfield.
