The Jacksonville Jaguars got a massive break when the first pick of the 2021 NFL Draft fell right into their laps.
The New York Jets controlled their fate and all they needed to do was lose, yet they won a meaningless game that cost them that pick.
Unsurprisingly, the Jaguars used it to land Clemson superstar Trevor Lawrence, who looked like the best quarterback prospect the game had seen since Peyton Manning.
The early returns weren’t that encouraging, but a lot of that had to do with Urban Meyer’s inability to do anything right in front of the team.
So, people around the league took notice when Doug Pederson took over the Jaguars, as he was known for being a quarterback’s coach and was expected to bring out the best of Lawrence.
It didn’t take long before the Jaguars proved that they could be a perennial playoff team under Pederson.
They closed out the season in a dominant way and won a divisional title, with Lawrence orchestrating a majestic comeback in his playoff debut.
That’s why Peyton Manning believes the sky is the limit for a guy like him playing for a coach like Pederson, and he claims he’s in a privileged position because of the system he plays in:
“He’s got a great knowledge of the system. I think Doug Pederson and he could be a tough combination for a long time for years to come. Really happy for him,” Manning said in the Pro Bowl. “I like the situation that Trevor’s in. They had great success this year and kind of sent a message to the rest of the AFC that Jacksonville is here, and I expect great things out of him in the next years.”

Lawrence showed glimpses of greatness throughout the season, proving that he could become the superstar QB most scouts were convinced he could become.
The rest of the league better be prepared, as Lawrence and the Jaguars aren’t going anywhere.
